What is Swanson Zinc Orotate?

When we talk about 'essential nutrients', in this case minerals, it isn't just a way of making a substance sound more important. It actually means that we have to get them from our diets, because unlike many other vital nutrients, we can't synthesise them inside our bodies.

Zinc Orotate is a form of 'chelated mineral' Boosts bioavailability of Zinc. Zinc is the second most common mineral in the body We keep it in every single cell of our bodies

Zinc is an essential mineral. It is a trace mineral because we need it in relatively small amounts but as it's so often the case, size is rarely relative to importance. Most people get their Zinc from cereals, milk, cheese and poultry but for some of us that leaves room for supplementation, especially when you consider the essential role it plays inside your body.

So important is it that, after Iron, Zinc is actually the the most abundant mineral in the body. It features in every single cell of your body. Since ages, Zinc has been used to heal wounds and promote blood clotting (especially useful if you're anaemic!). Now we know that it's equally important for everything from sight, taste, vision, growth and our immune systems.

What is Swanson Zinc Orotate used for?

The process of chelation is both surprisingly simple and remarkably effective. Zinc Orotate is one form of bonded Zinc which is actually already found in the human body in trace amounts. First discovered by the German orthomolecular physician, Dr. Hans Nieper, it is composed of one atom of Zinc and two molecules of Orotic Acid.

What Dr. Nieper discovered was that when Zinc is bonded like this, it actually becomes more 'body-ready'. In other words, we absorb it more effectively, rendering it more advantageous for the treatment and prevention of diseases.

Perhaps Dr Nieper's most important discovery though, was that Zinc orotate was more neutrally charged than Zinc chlorides, carbonates and sulphates, which meant that it could pass seamlessly through the cell membrane.

By enhancing the mineral's ability to pass through the cellular membrane, Swanson Zinc Orotate opens up a whole realm of possible long term benefits for its dietary supplementation.
